Classlist Policies

Classlist is our official platform for parent–school communication at MIS.
Its purpose is to support:

  • Community building

  • Parent coordination

  • School and PTV announcements

  • Event organisation

  • Safe, respectful exchanges between families

To protect our community and comply with German data protection law (GDPR/BDSG), we set the following guidelines.

1. Respect for Privacy & Personal Data

Parent names, class lists and contact information visible on Classlist may only be used for personal, non-commercial communication within the MIS community.

It is not permitted to use this information for:

  • Advertising

  • Marketing

  • Promoting one’s own business

  • Creating external mailing lists

  • Professional solicitation

This is required by both German law (DSGVO/BDSG) and Classlist’s own Terms.

2. Business Promotion Rules

Our Classlist environment does not include commercial advertising and is meant to remain a non-commercial communication space.

Therefore:

Parents may not  post:

  • Adverts for their business

  • Promotions, discounts, sales

  • Invitations to commercial events

  • Unsolicited links to online shops

  • “Please support my business” posts

  • Being compensated for promotions is not allowed under any circumstances

If a parent requests recommendations for a service, it is allowed to mention other people’s businesses in the group, or your own via private message.

If a parent offers a service directly relevant to the immediate needs of the MIS community, it may be posted only if:

  • It is non-commercial in nature (e.g. “I have second-hand skis to sell,”
“Does anyone have a recommendation for a dentist?”)

  • It concerns volunteering or community support, not business promotion

If in doubt, please ask the Classlist Ambassadors (aka Admins) before posting.

3. Official School & PTV Communications

Only authorised MIS or PTV admins may post:

  • Announcements

  • Fundraising information

  • Event flyers

  • Volunteer requests

  • School-sanctioned partnerships

These are clearly marked as official communications.

Parent posts must never appear as if they are endorsed or supported by MIS or the PTV unless explicitly approved.

4. No Use of Data for Marketing

In line with the GDPR, parent data in Classlist may not be used for direct marketing of any kind.

This includes:

  • Sending marketing emails

  • Sending promotional messages via Classlist

  • Contacting parents individually for commercial purposes

  • Using parent data to build customer lists

  • Targeting specific groups (e.g. parents of JS children) for business reasons

5. Moderation & Enforcement

To protect the community:

  • Posts that violate these guidelines will be removed by Classlist Admins, aka Ambassadors.

  • Users may receive a friendly reminder of the rules.

  • Continued or serious misuse (especially commercial or data-misuse) may lead to removal from the platform in accordance with Classlist’s Terms.

We aim to keep the community positive, safe, and free from commercial pressure.

6. Questions & Clarifications

If you're unsure whether a post is allowed, please contact a Classlist Ambassador. We are happy to help and want to keep Classlist a warm, supportive, non-commercial space for everyone.
