App Overview

Classlist has many features that support parent engagement and streamline communication. Here we will walk you through the top and bottom menu bars to orient you.

My Groups

Top Left Tab

MyGroups_edited_edited.jpg

On the very left of the top menu bar you will see “My groups”. This will list all the groups you are a member of. Parents are automatically added to the Homeroom and Grade groups of their child(ren), as well as the Whole School group.

When you click into a group, a new screen opens with it’s own menu bar. This is where you can see group announcements and posts, and make your own posts. Replies to posts are nested, so it is easy to keep track of different topics.

In the “Info” tab, you can see the description of the group, and other information. It also has a link to the Classlist Community Guidelines as a reminder.

Announcements

Top Second Tab

Along the top of the menu bar is the “Announcements” section. This is a place for important announcements from the school and/or the PTV.

Entire School Announcements can be made by MIS Staff and the PTV board members. Community Reps can make Announcements for their grade or school section, or their social group. Therefore, the Announcements section may contain Announcements ranging from a group you have joined all the way up to the entire school community.

The great thing is that Announcements are able to be targeted to the relevant audience, so that announcements that are meant for the Junior School community are not visible to Senior School parents. This makes the Announcements section more relevant for all parents.

By default, Announcements are open to Comments. This can be turned off by the creator of an Announcement on a case-by-case basis.

Listings

Top Third Tab

Classlist has built in Marketplace functionality, called Listings. It is the third tab along the top menu bar.

You can filter listings by touching the three lines with circles along the top. You can also keep track of your favorite listings by touching the open heart icon when inside a Listing. You can then see your list of Favorites by touching the Heart icon along the top.

To create a new Listing, simply touch the red pencil icon at the bottom. Follow the prompts to add information about your item(s). We kindly ask that you mark items as sold and delete listings when they sell, so as to keep this section relevant. Once a listing has been created, you can edit, delete, or mark it sold by touching the three dots at the top of the Listing.

To see your own listings, you can touch the person icon next to the heart.

Classlist allows for direct, private communication about listed items, so you can arrange for payment and pickup among yourselves.

Calendar

Top Far Right Tab

Under the “Calendar” tab along the top menu, you can see events that have been created that you have been invited to.

Parents can also create private events such as birthday parties or coffee dates.

Simply click on the “Organize a party or meetup” button and follow the prompts. You can opt to have guests RSVP. Inviting people can be done individually by name (parent or student) or by a whole class or group you are a member of.

For Community Events, Classlist allows the organizer to set up "Sign up lists" to organize volunteers or items to bring. This is a much easier way to organize these things than Signup Genius, which the PTV has used in the past. Signing up is now easy-peasy!

Home

Bottom Left Tab

On the left of the bottom menu bar is the Home tab. This will show whatever top menu bar tab you were last in, or default to My Groups if you just opened the App.

Parent Finder

Bottom Second Tab

Screenshot 2025-06-16 at 15.40.33.png

The next bottom menu tab is the Parent Finder. One of the big advantages of Classlist is that it is much easier to find parents of your child(ren)’s friends!

Along the top of the Parent Finder tab is a search bar. Here you can search by name of either the child, or the parent if you already know it. Family relationships are automatically shown.

Below the search map is a link to “Who’s Who”, which will show you all of the Class Reps, the Ambassadors and Community Reps. More on the various roles in Classlist [here](link to the page on roles).

Below this is “Find the parents who live near me” which opens the Parent Map. Only parents who have shared their own location can see the map.

To join the map, click the “Join the parent map” button. This will open your “Contact Information” section. Enter your home address and check the box that say “Share my approximate location on the school Parent Map”. You may need to close the app and restart it after agreeing to share your location in order for the map to then be accessible to you.

You can also choose to share the home address on your profile, and choose to whom that will be visible by clicking underneath “who can see this?”. The options are “No one”, “Families in my class group” and “Families in my grade group”. It will never be visible to the school at large. The default if you change nothing will be that there is no address visible on your profile.

Below this is “Families in my Classes” where each of your children will have their own section. Click into your child’s name to see the other families of your child’s classmates. Note that only children whose parents have joined Classlist will appear, so in the beginning of the school year you may need to wait a bit for everyone to join to get a full list of classmates. This also applies to the Year Groups, which are found just below this section.

My School

Bottom Third Tab

MySchool_edited.jpg

The third tab along the bottom menu is My school. When you click into this, you will see an overview of MIS, including contact information.

Below this you can find a link to all of the admins (aka Ambassadors) and reps.

Below that is a hugely helpful section of quick links! Here you can find links to any other school related websites that you might need to access as a handy reference, including the PTV website,  iSAMS, the cafeteria website, SLP Schools Buddy and more!

My Account/Profile

Bottom Right Tab

Address Settings_edited.jpg

Lastly along the bottom menu bar is your own profile. When you first log in, this will have a person icon, but once you update your profile with a photo it will show your photo here.

My account

The first tab in this section is My Account, where you can update your contact details, password, Privacy settings and your Notifications.

We recommend everyone reviews their Privacy settings to ensure you sharing only the information you want. By default, this is set to show your name only.

We also strongly encourage everyone to look in the Notifications section. Here you can very granularly set what notifications you want to receive. With a large community like ours, this is very helpful to avoid getting an overwhelming number of notifications. For example, you can choose to only be notified about new Announcements, so that you don’t miss any important information. Or you can choose to receive a daily or weekly email digest. There are many settings here, it is worth spending a few minutes to adjust this so you hear about what matters most to you.

My Profile

The second tab inside this section shows your profile and allows you to upload background and avatar photos. You can share some information about yourself if you so choose, add Family Connections, edit your parent map sharing settings, and add a school run to share.
